The project to replace the Virgin and Child statue in the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours chapel in Gatteville-le-Phare was launched at the end of February 2025.

Following public consultation on March 1, 2025, we selected the sketch opposite, which is the closest to the old statue, to be made in Caen stone.

A commission has been placed with Cherbourg sculptor Dimitri Charrault (Atelier Charrault), and to finance the work, an appeal for donations was opened from Saturday March 15, 2025 to Tuesday May 6, the closing date of the sculptor’s exhibition in Gatteville.

The initial fundraising target was €4,000, and we were able to raise a total of €5,112, which has been accounted for in a dedicated fund. As indicated during the fund-raising campaign, the amount in excess of the target will be earmarked to finance the restoration or replacement of sculptures belonging to Gatteville’s heritage.

Tax receipts will be sent to identified donors in early 2026.
