10 July 2025 – “SATMAR: 50 years of innovation in shellfish aquaculture” conference

The Société Atlantique de Mariculture, founded in 1971, set up in Gatteville in 1972 on the former salt marsh, with the aim of making up for the shortage of spat that was affecting oyster farmers.

Since then, the company has grown considerably and diversified.
Now the leading producer of clam spat in Europe, after being the first company in Europe to produce triploid oysters, SATMAR employs more than 100 people across nine sites in France.

Yves Le Borgne, the company’s first director and developer, recounted the adventure of the past fifty years.

It was a fascinating conference, supported by the presence of several former employees of the company. Thank you, Yves!
