14 August 2026 – Cycling talk: ‘In the Footsteps of the Luna’

A dozen people followed Thierry Louise, a maritime history enthusiast and the day’s speaker, on this cycle tour, which set off from the Vieux Colombier in Barfleur to visit several sites linked to the sinking of the Luna on 17 February 1860: the SNSM station in Barfleur, Crabec, with a view of Quilleboeuf Rock, then the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours chapel, the old cemetery and the Gatteville lighthouse, covering a distance of around 9 km by bike.

At each stop along the way, Thierry shared his knowledge of what was undoubtedly the deadliest shipwreck ever to occur off the Cotentin coast.
